Expedition 374: Ross Sea West Antarctic Ice Sheet History has just begun. Scientists from around the world are currently journeying across the Southern Ocean to their first drill site. In a few days, they will rendevous with the Nathaniel B. Palmer and be escorted through the ice. Then it'll be all stations go for everyone onboard. Follow the journey at joidesresolution.org.

The JOIDES Resolution (JR) is a research vessel that drills into the ocean floor to collect and study core samples. Scientists use data from the JR to better understand climate change, geology and Earth’s history. It is a part of the International Ocean Discovery Program and is funded by the National Science Foundation.
